Carol was in an abusive relationship for 11 years. The relationship with her fiancé deeply damaged the most valuable relationship in her life, her relationship with her daughter and it almost cost them their lives. After years of abuse, Carol found the strength to take action which led to 3 restraining orders and his conviction. She was brought to Akron by the Cleveland police because she needed to flee. She was forced to leave her daughter with family and undergo psychiatric evaluation. She had plummeted from being very successful, to being at the bottom. She had lost everything. She felt there was no hope.
Now she has her life back. She is an Emergency Medical Technician and an EKG tech. She is doing the work she loves. She is continuing her education and she feels like herself again. ACCESS gave her the strength and made her feel like family. They made her feel accepted and gave her the ability to stand on her own two feet again, to believe that she can succeed. Carol and her daughter are reunited. She lives in a beautiful two-bedroom apartment. She is working full time and finally feels secure.
Big or small, every donation to ACCESS and the homeless women and children it serves will be greatly appreciated.
