Honoring Mothers

Mother's Day is the one day of the year when we give honor, love and appreciation to those who have the toughest jobs in the world. Whether that is your sister, daughter, grandmother, mother or any other woman who has made a lasting impact in your life, here is your chance to say "Thank You," in a very memorable way.

What better way is there to celebrate mothers on their special day?

United Way Campaign Comes to a Successful Finish

The sounds of laughter and the smells of grilling meats drifted out of the pavilion at Hardesty Park in late August. The mood was relaxed and the weather was hot as ACCESS employees shared stories, ate burgers and pledged to support the United Way financially.

This year ACCESS, Inc's annual United Way Campaign kicked-off with an outdoor barbeque hosted by senior staff at Hardesty Park in Akron. ACCESS team members came out to enjoy good food, fantastic prizes and an informative talk by Angela Tucker Cooper, executive director of Mental Health America and ACCESS board member.

"The goal is for one hundred percent of our staff to give," says Lynn Budnick, executive director. "We did it last year; we can do it again this year!"
The picnic was a fun and unique way to promote giving with the ACCESS staff. Incentives included a paid day off and two tickets to the Cleveland Indians donated by Terry Burman, chairman of Sterling Jewelers, Inc.

As pacesetters, ACCESS is one of many organizations to get the United Way's annual campaign off to a roaring start. The final numbers for ACCESS are still being totaled – but they are close to one hundred percent participation.
"The United Way does so much for us [ACCESS], said Budnick.”It's nice to be able to give back in some way."

Feeling more like a party and less like an annual campaign, people left the picnic with their stomachs full and spirits lifted knowing they contributed to a cause that helps so many – including ACCESS.

Generous donations used as raffle prizes were provided by:

* The West Side Bakery
* Cinemark in Macedonia
* The River City Gift Shoppe
* The Akron Symphony Orchestra
* Terry Burman, chairman of Sterling Jewelers, Inc.
