Comprehensive hunger relief at ACCESS

At ACCESS, we believe in the power of addressing the cause of an issue, especially one as serious as hunger. Unlike in many other countries, the cause of hunger in the United States is not the lack of food available.

It is the lack of job opportunities and affordable housing. Many of the women who arrive at ACCESS are struggling to find work and without a steady income, they have a difficult time sustaining housing and providing for themselves and their family.

The issue of hunger needs to be addressed comprehensively. At ACCESS we look at the many factors contributing to a person’s hunger and we try to affect each of those factors in a positive way.

  • We address the lack of jobs and housing through our intensive programming.

  • The cooks provide healthy, nutritious meals every day, eliminating the stress of hunger while single women and mothers are looking for stable jobs and housing.

  • Mothers are given special instruction for infants and formula is provided.

  • Mothers take the good habits learned in the shelter and carry them over into independence.

  • The Program Coordinator makes sure all women and mothers are connected with services in the community through the Ohio Benefit Bank. This also ensures the sustained success of the families when they leave the shelter.
