WEST AKRON — ACCESS Inc., Akron’s homeless shelter for women and children, welcomed a donation of more than 300 pairs of shoes for children at the shelter from Lucky Shoes recently.

According to ACCESS officials, more than 20,000 homeless women and children have been served by ACCESS since 1984. The staff at the shelter provides safe housing, items such as clothes and shoes and solutions that develop self-esteem while working on self-sufficiency through holistic and supportive programming.

“This incredible donation is so valued by our team and the families we serve,” said Jackie Hemsworth, executive director at ACCESS Shelter. “Items like these shoes are a powerful way in helping our homeless children feel welcome, safe and confident. We’re so thankful for our new partners at Lucky Shoes and the way they give back in this community.”

She added this is the largest donation of shoes in the history of ACCESS.

ACCESS is located at 230 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44303. School donations may be dropped off Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m., as well as Wednesdays from 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment.
