Jennifer
Jennifer had been through health issues that unfortunately led her to unemployment and homelessness.
She ended up calling United Way’s 2-1-1 hotline and was put on a waiting list for shelter. In remembering this moment, Jennifer sighed and reluctantly said, “I got on a waiting list. And, I… I just waited… and prayed.”
Weeks later, Jennifer finally received a call that ACCESS Shelter had a room open for her. She stated excitedly, “When they called me, I ran at the chance I was so excited!”
Within the first few moments of being at ACCESS, she remarked on how positive everyone was and how quickly she was being immersed into resources, “The first week I was here, I got signed up for things that I've needed for… years. They've got me on lists to do classes and other health resources that I've needed.”
Jennifer looked down and smiled, stating, “I feel happy. I haven't felt like that in so long…”
She shares, “What I want people to know is that no matter what happened in the past, what you went through, or why you're here, it is a program and an opportunity. You have goals, safety, great food, warm beds, and you have staff that cares.”
